New York City, NY – Federal prosecutors are calling for maximum prison terms of 215 years for John and Timothy Rigas in connection with the Adelphia Communications fraud case.
The Bloomberg News Service cites newly unveiled court documents. In them, prosecutors are requesting the lengthy sentences because of the extent and nature of the crimes.
The Rigases were convicted of 18 felony counts last July. Their sentencing, now scheduled for next Monday, has been postponed several times.
Defense attorneys maintain their clients are innocent, and plan an appeal. They're requesting leniency, especially for John Rigas, who is 80 and in ill health,
