Buffalo, NY – There is a brand new radio station operating in Iraq. But what makes it so unique is its mission. The radio station is designed to be the voice of women -- something unheard of prior to the fall of Saddam Hussein.
Local Iraqi-American Steve Shariff continues to travel between Buffalo and Baghdad offering assistance to the Iraqi people. In his latest endeavor, Shariff helped established the first-ever radio station for women in Iraq.
Shariff received helped from an organization called Opportunities for Kids International. Debbie Bowers of Clarence is with the group -- a non-profit organization that reaches out to young women, children and men suffering the plight of war and major disasters.
Shariff says he wants to help Iraq women in their struggle for rights and freedom. Click the "listen" icon above to hear more.
