Buffalo, NY – Buffalo Teachers Federation President Philip Rumore says the city school district needs to explain what it is doing with millions of dollars in educational program funds. He says for more than a year, he has been requesting information about district expenditures for the Education Innovation Consortium and UB's Center for Applied Technologies.
Rumore says $5 million to $8 million were spent on the programs between 2002 and 2004.
"I'm not saying there was anything done illegally," Rumore said. "But when you don't get the information you're asking for, and you're getting stone walled, it makes you suspicious. Right now, we will not be satisfied with them just dumping information on us. What we want is an investigation by outside agencies."
The school district's chief financial officer Gary Crosby says there is nothing wrong with the way the funding was spent under the programs.
