New Millennium Group Envisions International Gateway to Peace Bridge

By Jillian Bannister

Buffalo, NY – The New Millennium Group unveiled its vision Tuesday for what it describes as an "International Gateway" as part of the Peace Bridge Expansion Project.

The group's vision includes a gateway to Canada from Niagara Street. All Peace Bridge connecting roads would be moved away from Front Park.

Jeff Belt, a New Millennium Group member and a representative of the Baird Foundation, says a gateway on Niagara Street will increase revenue for the city of Buffalo.

"We discovered that if we built an international gateway on Niagara Street, commercial activity would rise there," Belt said. "The city itself would take in additional $8 million in property taxes annually."

Belt says their plan would also eliminate the need for major demolitions in the West Side neighborhood adjacent to the Peace Bridge entrance.
