Buffalo, NY – State Assemblyman Sam Hoyt is asking state Comptroller Alan Hevesi to audit Erie County's finances.
Hoyt describes it as a potential first step toward recommending that a control board take over the county's troubled finances.
"We all know the county is facing a dire fiscal situation," Hoyt said. "You have different information coming from the county comptroller, the county executive and the county Legislature. I think an outside analysis by the state's chief fiscal officer would be totally appropriate at this time."
Hoyt pointed out that it was an audit by Hevesi of the city of Buffalo's troubled finances that led to the creation of the city's control board.
He said he's had preliminary discussions with members of Hevesi's staff.
