Education Advocates Call for Immediate School Spending Reforms

Buffalo, NY – The Alliance for Quality Education is once again calling for reforms to the state education aid formula. The AQE says it's launching a new web-based campaign, titled "Our Kids Can't Wait," to mobilize New Yorkers to put the pressure on.
The state continues to drag its feet on meeting a court ruling in the Campaign for Fiscal Equity case that requires more money for New York City schools. Alliance Board Member Jim Anderson says it's time for state leaders to work together on a plan to increase education funding for ALL schools in the state.
"Our purpose is to demand that George Pataki and the New York State Legislature comply with the court order by settling the Campaign for Fiscal Equity lawsuit as brought forth in New York City and without delay, create and pass a statewide bill to ensure opportunity of a sound basic education to all New York students," Anderson said.
According to the Alliance for a Quality Education, 28 of the 31 school districts in Erie County are under funded.
