Pendleton, NY – Nearly three dozen high school students reported feeling ill during a morning concert rehearsal Tuesday, leading officials to close the school and call emergency crews.
About 50 to 60 students were practicing for a choral concert in the Starpoint High School auditorium when some began experiencing headaches, nausea and vomiting.
Thirty-four students were taken to four hospitals for treatment. All released into the care of their parents by Tuesday afternoon.
Blood and air-quality tests ruled out carbon monoxide poisoning, Rural Metro Ambulance spokesman Steve Beauchamp said, but the cause of the illness remained unknown Tuesday afternoon.
The district dismissed students early.
