Buffalo, NY – The Buffalo Board of Education has approved an offer by M & T Bank President Robert Wilmers to pay for a national search for a new superintendent for the city's struggling public school district. Wilmers' offer also includes a pledge to supplement the superintendent's salary to make the position more attractive.
A seven-member committee will lead the search for a new schools chief. Wilmers has agreed to pay about $100,000 for the search. He'll also provide an unspecified salary supplement for up to five years.
Wilmers says the money will come from his personal funds and contributions from others -- but not from his bank.
