Charter School Gets Early Start

By Justin Sobel

Buffalo, NY – September is just around the corner, which means area schools are preparing for the start of another year. But some students returned to class a little earlier than others. The Charter School for Applied Technologies began a new school year Wednesday.

When it first opened in 2001, the school offered classes from kindergarten through eighth grade. But this year, it expanded to ninth grade.

Teacher Christopher Nogaro said the ninth grade students are a familiar site around the school.

"The school has be opened for four years. And most of our 9th grade students have been here since sixth grade," said Nogaro.

By 2007, the Charter School for Applied Technologies will be the first charter school outside of New York City to offer a comprehensive instructional program serving students from kindergarten through grade 12.
