Giambra Measuring Medicaid's Cost

By Justin Sobel

Buffalo, NY – Erie County Executive Joel Giambra met with county leaders from across the State Monday to talk about the financial impact Medicaid has had on their county budgets.

Many of the leaders feel Medicaid is no longer affordable and unfunded. Giambra said he will be forced to increase taxes to meet medicaid costs.

But Erie isn't the only county having trouble. All New York Counties are experiencing hardships with regard to Medicaid costs. Niagara County Chairman Bill Ross said Medicaid is a big problem in his county.

Many of the leaders, including Westchester County Executive Andy Spano, say it is necessary for Albany to reform Medicaid to help ease the burden on taxpayers.
