State Legislature Provides $25 Million More for City Schools

By Mark Wozniak

Albany, NY – As a new state budget nears completion, over four months past the April 1st deadline, there's good news for public school districts. The state Senate and Assembly are set to pass measures to provide a $25 million increase in state aid for Buffalo schools over what Governor Pataki allocated in his budget proposal.

State Assemblyman Sam Hoyt of Buffalo says he expects the governor will approve the additional aid.

"I'm hopeful the Governor will recognize the importance of these dollars to the school children of Buffalo, and will not veto them" Hoyt said. "It's my feeling that he will not veto them. We will be celebrating a great education budget for the children of Buffalo."

Approval of the education bills is expected Tuesday, and a finalized state budget could be in place by the end of the week.
