Falletta Assumes Additional Duties with Honolulu Symphony

By Eileen Buckley

Buffalo, NY – After leading the Buffalo Philharmonic through a weekend performance at Carnegie Hall, there is word that Music Director JoAnn Falletta will be assisting the Honolulu Symphony.

JoAnn Falletta will be earning frequent flyer miles in the coming months. She has been appointed to serve as artistic advisor to the Honolulu Symphony.

Falletta will provide artistic guidance, direction and expertise for the symphony as it prepares for the next two upcoming seasons, while conducting an international search for a new music director.

In a news release issued by the Honolulu Symphony, Falletta said she is delighted to enter into a special relationship. She will also attend and participate in local and national auditions for the orchestra and will conduct the symphony in a December performance.

Falletta also serves as music director of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra.

Back in Buffalo she is preparing for the inaugural JoAnn Falletta International Guitar competition to be held June 13th at Kleinhans. It will feature three classical guitarists performing with the BPO.
