Jamestown, NY – With a growing popularity of TV reality shows, a Jamestown manufacturers association created its own local reality show. "Manufacturing Mayhem" was produced by the Manufacturing Technology Institute in Jamestown.
Two teams competed in a 16-hour event to create the fastest go-cart. Manufacturers Association president Todd Tranum says it was a great chance to promote exciting things that happen in manufacturing. He says it allowed the companies that participated to demonstrate team work, ingenuity and skill.
"We had representatives from Cummins Engine, Universal Tooling, the Clymer School System and more," Tranum said.
Tranum says studies indicated that as many as six million skilled jobs will be vacated by the baby boomer generation in the next five to ten years and education institutions need to address the right training and skills to future workers.
Currently the show only airs on Time Warner Cable, Channel 8. But Tranum says they hope to eventually have it air on other stations in the region.
