Historic Windows Returned to Martin House

By Joyce Kryszak

Buffalo, NY – Two of Frank Lloyd Wright's beautiful, Wisteria art glass windows will once again shine light into the Martin House. The Landmark Society announced Monday it will soon return the sidelight windows to the rightful owner, the Martin House Restoration Corporation.

The Landmark Society has kept the famous windows in protective storage for more than a decade. The Society, on behalf of donors, acquired the windows at an auction in 1988, hoping to one day have them reinstalled at the Martin House. Landmark Society President Robert Shibley says that was a victorious day for preservation.

"Christie, normally a reserved auction house, broke into applause when it became clear the windows were going back to Buffalo," Shibley said. "The price was within our reach."

And that price was roughly $80,000 -- far below the actual appraised value for the two windows.
