Winners in Landmark Case Call for Billions More in Aid
By Associated Press
Albany, NY – A group that won a landmark court case against the state last year says New York's schools need $7 billion more in state aid over the next few years.
The Campaign for Fiscal Equity released its long-awaited "costing out" study on how much more funding schools across New York need. The advocates say more than three-quarters of all schools -- including the New York City school district -- are underfunded under the state's current funding formula.
Last year the state's highest court ruled that the state isn't providing a sound education to New York City school kids. The Court of Appeals ruling requires Albany to revise its education spending by July 30th.
