Practice Grenades Cause Peace Bridge Delays

By Associated Press

Buffalo, NY – Traffic lanes on the Canadian side of the Peace Bridge were closed Sunday after two hand grenades were found on a bus headed to Toronto.

Officials closed the Canada-bound lanes for about an hour after the bus driver found the grenades in a backpack while the bus was stopped at Canada Customs in Fort Erie, Ontario.

Traffic lanes were closed and nearby buildings were evacuated while a Canadian police bomb-disposal unit checked out the devices.

Authorities say the two items turned out to be practice grenades, which don't contain explosives.

Authorities say the bag contained proper identification and belonged to someone in the Atlanta area.
