Doctor Warns of Over-Dependence on Antibiotics

By Eileen Buckley

Buffalo, NY – With the cold and flu season well underway, the Western New York health care community begins its fourth annual "Be Smart About Antibiotics" program. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says virtually all important bacterial infections are becoming resistant to antibiotics that can result in serious consequences.

The "Be Smart About Antibiotics" campaign works to raise awareness of the inappropriate use of antibiotics. It involves the Catholic Health system, Blue Cross and Blueshield of WNY, Independent Health, Kaleida Heath and Univera Healthcare.

Local pediatrician Dr. Tom Cozza is a Western New York advisory board member for the "Be Smart" campaign. Click the "listen" icon above to hear his interview with Eileen Buckley.
