Buffalo, NY – The New York Public Interest Research Group celebrated its 30th anniversary over the weekend at a New York City reception. Since 1973, NYPIRG has fought against tuition increases, pesticide use and out-of-control campaign spending.
Thirty years ago, the Arab oil embargo was causing gasoline and home heating oil prices to skyrocket. The Watergate scandal was on the verge of bringing down a president. US involvement in Vietnam was coming to an end. And on several college campuses across New York, student activists were getting together to form the New York Public Interest Research Group.
