Buffalo, NY – The state has granted the Peace Bridge Authority the power of eminent domain, meaning it can claim properties as necessary for bridge expansion.
The decision follows lengthy negotiations in Albany, in which financial incentives will be granted to displaced residents to keep them from moving out of the city.
Officials hope that property acquisitions will be done by negotiations. Fewer than 100 homes would likely be affected.
The city of Buffalo will have veto power in the eminent domain process.
