Plans Dropped for Outer Harbor Entertainment Complex

By Mark Scott

Buffalo, NY – Plans were dropped Wednesday for the much anticipated E-Zone Entertainment Complex along Buffalo's outer harbor.

The project was announced with great fanfare last April. Plans for the E-Zone included an indoor-outdoor water park, a snow board park, theme restaurants, shops and other attractions.

The original price tag was $100 million. But in August, that increased by $37 million when the developer, the Syata Group, said the scope of the project needed to be expanded. Still, securing the necessary financing from both the public and private sectors proved elusive.

County Executive Joel Giambra had set an October 1st deadline. Late Wednesday afternoon, both Syata and Giambra announced the economics were not right for the project to continue.

In a written statement, Syata chairman Abraham Reichmann said he was pleased with the level of cooperation from government officials and that he looks forward to working with them in the future.

The land will now be made available for other uses. Both Giambra and Mayor Anthony Masiello are trying to convince the Seneca Nation of Indians to locate their second casino there.
