Amistad Attracts Large Crowds

By Mark Wozniak

Buffalo, NY – The replica slave ship Amistad attracted an estimated 20,000 to 25,000 visitors during its four day visit to Buffalo harbor.

Farewell ceremonies were held Sunday. Fifty-three carnations were dropped into the waters of Lake Erie, commemorating the captives who took over the original ship in the 19th century.

The ship was scheduled to leave Buffalo Monday, onto its next stop in Oswego.
