Conversation with the manager of the Mormon Tabernacle ChoirBy Bill Raffel, WBFO
Buffalo, NY – The Mormon Tabernacle Choir stops at the Chautauqua Institution as part of its most prestigious North American Tour. Good morning. I'm Bill Raffel with Music Notes.
The Choir is stopping at many prestigious outdoor music centers in the Eastern United States including Tanglewood, Wolftrap, the Saratoga Performing Arts Center and Chautauqua. Choir Manager Scott Berrick says the choir is like a small city when on the road.
Thanks to the Manager of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Scott Berrick, for joining us on Music Notes. And if you don't have a ticket to see them at Chautauqua, I'm sorry, but you're too late. It's sold out. Instead, consider the Dance Salon presented by the Chautauqua Ballet on Thursday (6/26). Then on Friday (6/27), Uriel Segal opens the Chautauqua's Symphony's season with Beethoven's Fifth Symphony and Rachmaninoff's Second Concerto with Pianist Lilya Zilberstein. Both begin at 8:15 p.m. in the Amphitheatre.
Also this week, local composer Piotr Gorecki has written a new Cantata celebrating the 750th anniversary of the canonization of Saint Stanislaus. Catch the premiere with the Polish Singers Alliance Sunday (6/29) at 4 p.m. in Saint Stanislaus Church on Buffalo's East Side.
And the American Legion Band of the Tonawandas is in concert Saturday (6/28) in Lockport's Palace Theatre and Sunday (6/29) in Orchard Park's Quaker Arts Pavilion, both starting at 7 p.m.
The Lancaster Town Band gives a free concert Tuesday (6/24) in Como Lake Park, and the Batavia Concert Band performs in Centennial Park (in Batavia) Wednesday (6/25) at 7 p.m.
