Icy Weather Blamed for Power Outages, Fatal Accident

By Mark Wozniak

Buffalo, NY – Niagara Mohawk and New York State Electric and Gas crews continued to work Monday morning restoring power to customers throughout Western New York affected by Sunday's icy weather.

Niagara County was among the hardest hit areas, as hundreds of customers lost electricity.

There were numerous fender benders, and a fatal traffic accident on Grand Island was blamed partially on the weather. Police say a 25-year-old woman was killed when a pickup truck veered into her lane because of the slick road conditions.

The Buffalo Niagara International Airport was closed for several hours Sunday, and some flights were delayed or cancelled Monday morning.
