National Fuel Signs Letter of Intent for Amherst Site

By Mark Scott

Buffalo, NY – National Fuel is targeting the Tops Markets office complex in Amherst for its new headquarters. The two companies signed a letter of intent Wednesday in which they'll take the next 30 days to finalize an agreement.

National Fuel has been exploring several locations for a new headquarters after making the decision to move its more than 500 jobs out of downtown Buffalo.

National Fuel President David Smith says the site appears to be "the most efficient and affordable" for a new headquarters.

As part of the potential deal, Tops would maintain its corporate headquarters at the Amherst site.

National Fuel had been considering another Amherst site, plus sites in Orchard Park and Erie, Pennsylvania for a new headquarters.

The other sites will not be completely eliminated until a contract with Tops is signed.
