Albany, NY – The state Consumer Protection Board says New York's "Do Not Call" registry has prevented at least 500 million telemarketing calls since its April 2001 launch.
Statewide, 1.9 million households have registered to stop unwanted sales calls.
Forty-three companies have agreed to pay the state $601,160 dollars in fines for calling people on the registry.
