Four Buffalo Schools on List of Most Improved

By Eileen Buckley

Buffalo, NY – The State Education Department released a report today on the most improved school districts in New York. More than 700 schools are on the list, which is based on test scores in Math and English for students in the fourth and eight grades. There were four schools in Buffalo -- Public Schools 68 and 81, the Build Academy and Campus East -- on the most improved list.

Build Academy was listed for most improved in elementary math. Public School 68 and Campus East were most improved for middle school math. Public Schools 68 and 81 were listed for most improved in elementary English.

Buffalo Schools Superintendent Marion Canedo is very pleased. She says those schools showed the greatest improvements and "exceeded expectations."

"A lot of our schools have improved," Canedo said. "But these are the most improved schools. It means throughout the state, some schools have showed the greatest jumps and the greatest leaps."

But Canedo says it could take a great deal of creativity and focus to continue improving all city schools. Right now, the Buffalo school district is facing severe budget cuts under the Governor Pataki's proposed state spending plan.
