Consumer Confidence Falls in New York

By Mark Scott

Albany, NY – A poll shows overall consumer confidence in the state fell almost two points in December.

The Siena Research Institute poll found overall state consumer confidence was just over 70. At the same time, the nation's consumer confidence rose for the second month in a row to near 87.

But the poll found a dip in future consumer confidence was bringing down the state's overall numbers.

Although there's concern about the present, Institute Director Douglas Lonnstrom, a professor of statistics, says consumers are more worried about the future. Still, he says, spending plans are holding up because of great deals.

The institute surveyed 620 state residents.
