Governor Pataki Re-Elected to Third Term
New York City, NY – Republican George Pataki is headed back to Albany for his third term as governor, winning about 49 percent of the vote statewide and carrying Erie County with 44 percent of the vote.
Democrat H. Carl McCall finished second at 33 percent. Rochester businessman Tom Golisano was a distant third with 14 percent of the vote statewide, though he did better in Erie County at 24 percent.
Democrats took the other statewide races, with incumbent Eliot Spitzer returning as attorney general and Alan Hevesi winning a tight race for comptroller, 52 to 48 percent over John Faso.
