No Progress in Talks to Resolve Redistricting Dispute

By Mark Wozniak

Buffalo, NY – Buffalo Common Council members spent several hours in a closed door meeting with US Magistrate Judge Hugh Scott Thursday, with hopes of reaching a compromise in the controversial council redistricting proposal.

But Majority Leader Rosemarie LoTempio tells the Buffalo News that there will be no compromise, and any further changes will have to be court-mandated.

Meanwhile, a citizens group unveiled a proposal Thursdayday to eliminate two council seats instead of four, and to cut Council spending.

Also, Council President James Pitts announced he plans a public forum on the redistricting plan, to be held sometime next month.
