Buffalo, NY – The Buffalo Common Council debated downsizing again Tuesday, in a contentious meeting with racial overtones.
Supporters of keeping a 13 member Council accused their opponents who favor a downsizing to nine members with bigotry and racism.
Tuesday's meeting followed Majority Leader Rosemarie Lotempio's revelation last week that she may support a plan to eliminate the Council's three at-large seats and the elected Council president.
Council President James Pitts criticized LoTempio, saying, "I want you to know you're in for a fight."
At-Large Member Charley Fisher demanded LoTempio's resignation.
All current reapportionment plans were tabled. A public hearing on the issue has been scheduled for July 22nd.
