Buffalo, NY – US Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton is asking Governor Pataki to identify state funding to secure and stabilize Buffalo's historic H.H. Richardson Complex.
The request from Clinton was made to the governor in a letter she sent Tuesday. In the letter, the New York Democrat emphasized the architectural and historic significance of the complex.
Clinton said she's "saddened" that the state has "virtually abandoned" the complex. Once the buildings are secured, she said, re-development of the site will then be possible.
Clinton estimates it will cost between $8 million and $10 million to stabilize the Richardson buildings and protect them from further deterioration.
Clinton's letter made no mention of whether she would seek federal funding to help the state save the buildings.
