City Close to Signing with Aud Developer

By Eileen Buckley

Buffalo, NY – It looks like Buffalo could be getting closer to signing a deal for a new business and tourist attraction at the old Memorial Auditorium.

A proposal has been submitted from Baltimore developer, Bos Group, to bring a Bass Pro Shop to the city's waterfront. But Common Council President James Pitts says he is concerned with the cost of an incentive package -- money the city would commit for the project.

"(I'm concerned) both in terms of payment in lieu of taxes and dollars from the federal government," Pitts said. "I'm very concerned because the project looks like it is going to be expensive. I think it is a good project, but the question is how much money is it going to cost."

Pitts could not provide an exact amount of the incentive package, but says it's in the multi-million dollar range.

Bass Pro would be an anchor for retail and entertainment in the former Aud.
