Thousands Receive Degrees in Weekend Ceremonies

By Mark Wozniak

Buffalo, NY – It was standing room only at Alumni Arena Sunday as the Class of 2002 received their degrees at UB's 156th annual commencement.

Among those receiving honorary degrees were alumnus Tom Toles, outgoing editorial cartoonist for the Buffalo News, and Ellen Shulman Baker, a NASA civilian astronaut and 1974 UB graduate.

In Olean, Saint Bonaventure University awarded a posthumous honorary doctorate to Father Mychal Judge, a 1957 Bona grad and New York fire department chaplain killed in the September 11th terrorist attacks.
