Collision with Police Car Kills One, Four Others Hurt

Buffalo, NY – One person was killed and four others injured when a Buffalo police car collided with another vehicle Sunday afternoon.

Two officers were responding to a shots fired call with lights and siren on when the accident happened at around 2:30pm at Jewett and Holden Avenues.

Willie Moore, 51, a passenger in the car that was struck, was killed. The driver, Harrell Bonner, 48, and another passenger, Andrew Lewis, 38, were injured and admitted to the Erie County Medical Center for treatment.

The two officers in the police car, Cedric Littlejohn, 33, and Derrick Banaszak, 25, were treated at ECMC for minor injuries.

An investigation is underway. Officers with the Accident Investigation Unit say a row of bushes on one corner of the intersection may have obstructed the view for both drivers as they approached.

Police say Bonner faces charges of driving with a suspended license. He's also accused of driving a car with switched plates and driving with bald tires.
