By Mark Scott

Buffalo, NY – The Masiello administration is taking the police union to court over the selection process for officers wishing to serve in the police department's Narcotics Division.

The PBA argues appointments should be based solely on seniority. The administration claims other qualifications need to be considered as well.

Mayoral spokesman Matt Brown said the PBA is holding up narcotics division appointments.

"They filed a resolution in their (union) meeting (last November) forbidding officers to apply or transfer to the Narcotics Division," Brown said. "Union leaders are also refusing to accept the qualification standards that the police department and the city have a right to implement.

Brown describes the PBA action as "another obstructionist tactic."

Union leader Robert Meegan did not return our call for comment.
