Adelphia Says It Will Exceed One Thousand Job Total

By Eileen Buckley

Buffalo, NY – Adelphia has kept its promise to the city of Buffalo.

Adelphia officials announced Friday afternoon that it will surpass its goal of creating 1,000 new jobs in Buffalo. So far, 850 employees have been added to Adelphia's local workforce. Over the next 14 months, they say Adelphia will create 400 more Buffalo-based jobs. That would bring the new job total to 1,250. All but 100 will be located at the company's new waterfront complex.

Executive Vice President Timothy Rigas says the company is well on its way to helping the region's economy.

"With the 1,150 jobs which will ultimately be located in the city of Buffalo, we are at 115 percent of our goal for the city," Rigas said.

The company committed to creating 1,000 new jobs by January 2004 as part of its agreement with the city, county and state for its waterfront development project.

Rigas says the Western New York jobs should result in a $4.4 billion economic impact over the next ten years. The average yearly salary of Adelphia employees in Buffalo is $35,000.
