Only A Game is a unique, hour long weekly program that addresses the important balance between the poetry and comedy of athletics and the earnestness with which athletes and their fans approach sports.
On Saturday morning at 7, WBFO listeners can hear host Bill Littlefield with a comprehensive and thoughtful presentation of local, national, and international stories with a sports theme -- sound-rich features, interviews, opinion, satire, discussion, witty musical transitions, and reliable sports information.
Only A Game has covered diverse stories and issues, including Title IX and the explosion of interest in women's sports at all levels, competitive opportunities for the disabled, racism, and the business of sports as well as who wins and who loses.
Guests on Only A Game have included writers John Updike, Roger Kahn, Roger Angell, and Alistair Cooke, as well as athletes such as Muhammed Ali, Greg Lemond, Rebecca Lobo, Martina Navratilova, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Joan Benoit-Samuelsen and Alexi Lalas.
Produced at NPR member station WBUR Boston, Only A Game is the only sports program of its kind on radio, exploring the significance of sports in our culture, but keeping our games in proper perspective.
You can hear Only A Game, Saturday mornings at 7 following the 6AM presentation of Car Talk® on WBFO.
