Jazz on WBFO

WBFO brings you 12 hours of jazz on the radio every weekday. WBFO is one of only a few radio stations in the country to present what some call America's classical music on such an extensive schedule, and only one in a handful of stations with a regular commitment to jazz in the daytime hours Monday through Friday. It's a radio tradition that reaches back into the 1960s, one which became nationally recognized in the 1970s and 1980s when the late John Hunt was WBFO's Music Director and daytime jazz host.

Bert Gambini, weekdays from 10 until 12, Doug Blakely, from 12 noon until 2pm, and Debbie Sims from 8pm to midnight are your music hosts on WBFO. They'll keep you company with the music, and keep you informed about what you hear. From Mose Allison to Joe Zawinul, you'll hear new releases, old standards, sizzling instrumentals and great vocal performances.

On Saturdays and Sundays, WBFO's music schedule includes the Blues, from 11AM until 5PM with Jim Santella and Anita West, and Debbie Sims from 10 until midnight.

On weekend evenings, we present our long-running lineup of specialty jazz programs:

  • 10PM Saturday: Two editions of Marian McPartland's Piano Jazz (from NPR), with noted jazz pianist Marian McPartland as your host.

  • 8PM Sunday: Bebop and Beyond. Dick Judelsohn focuses on modern jazz sounds. A noted pediatrician, Dr. Judelsohn has been a volunteer jazz host at WBFO since July 1976, and we congratulate Dick for nearly 30 years on the air.

  • 9PM Sunday: The Jazz Favorites Hour. Local bandleader Macy Favor finds out what his special guests like to listen to, and they share the music with you.
