Fresh Air® with Terry Gross is an hour long Monday through Thursday interview and features program that provides a fresh look at contemporary arts and issues; a program where newsworthy guests from worlds as diverse as literature and economics are interviewed by a host who allows guests to shine.
Many authors and book reviews are featured, and you can find out more here about books mentioned on Fresh Air.
Fresh Air has its roots here at WBFO.
Terry Gross attended the University at Buffalo in the early 1970s, and worked on the WBFO programs WomenPower and This Is Radio.
After Terry graduated from UB, she moved to Philadelphia, and began working at NPR member station WHYY in 1975.
There, she began hosting Fresh Air, a local interview and music program.
In 1985, Terry was heard from coast to coast, when a half hour weekly version of Fresh Air was distributed nationally by National Public Radio.
In 1987, Fresh Air became a daily hour-long national program.
The reviews that round out the hour are an important factor in the success of Fresh Air.
The roster of contributors includes:
- David Bianculli, TV critic for the New York Daily News
- Maureen Corrigan, book reviewer and professor of literature at Georgetown University
- Gerald Early, critic-at-large
- Geoffrey Nunberg, language commentator, usage editor of The American Heritage Dictionary
