Driveway Moments
Maybe it's happened to you as it has to countless others...you're driving home, listening to a story on NPR. Suddenly, you find yourself in your driveway (or parking space or parking garage). Rather than turn the radio off, you stay in your car to hear the piece to the end. It's a Driveway Moment.
Did you know you can submit your favorite Driveway Moment to NPR or WBFO? Simply visit NPR.org and fill out a brief form or send an email to WBFO telling us how you found yourself lingering in your car to hear the end of an NPR story on 88.7FM. We'll feature local Driveway Moments right here on WBFO.org!
A driveway moment from WBFO listener Robert Stovall:
"Eight or nine years ago (spring or summer of 95?) I remember hearing two NPR essays by Marion Winik as she recounted the final months of her husband's life before he died of AIDS. The second essay after his death told of her kids rolling down the windows of the car so their deceased father could hear his favorite music playing on the radio. Both essays moved me like nothing else in years of listening to NPR. Later I tried in vain to find one or the other on your archives so I could help my kids understand the heartbreak of AIDS. These would be properly found at the top of your "driveway moments" for poignancy and bravery."
