What WBFO is…

WBFO 88.7 FM is a public radio station operated as a major public service of the University at Buffalo to inform, educate, and entertain listeners throughout the Buffalo-Niagara region and the Southern Tier. WBFO practices the art of radio in ways that take advantage of its compelling characteristics by using sound, voice, words, and music to appeal to the ear, engage the imagination, and stimulate the mind. The station broadcasts an array of news and information programs to include Morning Edition, All Things Considered, and Car Talk from National Public Radio. There is also a significant amount of locally originated programming. Musically, WBFO is proud to provide Jazz, Blues, and Celtic music to our community.

What WBFO is not…

Because of its affiliation with the University at Buffalo, some confuse WBFO as a student run radio station. Nothing could be further from the truth. While WBFO welcomes students as interns and volunteers, the station staff is filled with professionals who practice the art and business of radio as their living. Their decades of experience and insight will help you learn about an ever changing industry and the issues that surround it.

Internship Program Information

You’ll have an opportunity to learn about various aspects of WBFO while gaining hands-on experience in a chosen area of focus. Internships are resume building, unpaid academic experiences.

WBFO’s internship program is designed to provide you with an opportunity to learn about radio broadcasting and its supporting areas while providing meaningful and practical business experience. Although our internships are open to people of all ages and backgrounds, we prefer some experience in some aspect of your chosen area. There are internships available in each of the following areas: Programming, News, Operations, Promotions, Development, and Finance.

• Eligibility
  You must be a graduate student or an undergraduate student during the internship period. Women and minorities are strongly encouraged to apply.

• General Information
  You are expected to work at least 20 hours a week during the Fall or Winter/ Spring semesters and between 20-40 hours during the Summer semester. You may receive academic credit if an agreement is made between WBFO and your department or school.

• Application Procedures
  To be considered, you must submit a cover letter and resume. Some internship positions require additional application items, such as a writing sample.

WBFO FM reserves the right to terminate an individual student's internship at any point for reasons such as poor attendance, misconduct or other serious problems.
