  • From the Desk of the General Manager

Now in its 48th year of operations, WBFO was a founding station of National Pubic Radio in the early 1970s, and maintains a tradition of superb public radio programming primarily through the generosity of its listeners and underwriters. The station adheres to the concept of “fiscal transparency.” The information that is provided on this web site fulfills our pledge to inform our listeners and our donors of our fiscal status.

As is evident, WBFO received funds from multiple sources; however, as stated above, the largest source of annual revenue - 68% - is from member donations, business and non-profit underwriting, and private foundations. It also is supported by a grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (a Congressionally-created entity that supports public broadcasting), a grant from the New York State Education Department, and funds from the University at Buffalo, as well as a building that houses the station. These government sources of revenue total approximately 32% of WBFO’s annual revenues.

We are proud to serve the Buffalo/Niagara region with first-rate programming from National Public Radio and from our studios in Allen Hall on UB’s South Campus.
